My name is Kelly and I reside in the States; I'm a "mom" to two dogs, Hinckley and Henley. I was made aware of Lennox's plight through a local news story covered here regarding a young golden pup taken away for attempting to bite the little girl who lived with them. Skippy, being just a pup, was trying to defend himself from the child who was being, perhaps a little too curious and forward with him. They started a campaign here to "Free Skippy" and raised awareness. The town in which Skippy was seized came to a compromise and let him go to a new owner in a different town. One of the links on Skippy's facebook page was of Free Lennox.
Lennox's story breaks my heart in every which way possible and reminds me why I think BSL is ineffective. Certain breeds of dog, like the Pit Bull, can be aggressive. However, it is naive to think that just because a dog is of a specific breed or looks like a specific breed that is must be dangerous. If we likened that philosophy to human beings then it would be called racial profiling. No matter how you cut it, it's not right and demonstrates ignorance of the highest standard and degree. If you ask me BSL is aimed at the wrong end of the leash. It's irresponsible owners who acquire such dogs and want them to live up to the negative stereotypes because they think it's macho or cool, or the owners who get such a dog and abuse it, or the owners who impulsively get these dogs and then do nothing for them by way of not taking them to at least a basic obedience/puppy kindergarden class. From what I've read, Lennox's family went above and beyond to ensure that they met every standard required of them as owners.
Truly this is a travesty and it's heartbreaking. For the sake of Lennox and his family, I wish & hope for nothing more than a positive outcome - the return of Lennox to his family who I'm sure he misses dearly and vice versa.
